Located in Port Blair, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, the Cellular Jail, also known as Kala Pani, is a historic colonial prison that stands as a solemn reminder of India’s fight for independence. Built by the British in 1906, the jail was used to exile political prisoners who dared to raise their voices against colonial rule.

This three-story structure originally had seven wings radiating from a central tower, designed to keep prisoners in solitary confinement. The inhuman conditions and harsh treatment endured by freedom fighters like Veer Savarkar, Batukeshwar Dutt, and Barindra Kumar Ghosh make Cellular Jail a powerful symbol of sacrifice and courage.

Today, the site has been converted into a national memorial, attracting thousands of tourists every year. The Light and Sound Show held every evening recounts the jail’s chilling history and the stories of those who gave everything for India’s independence.
